ISOLATION
The Sentinelese people have lived on the Andaman Islands for over 60,000 years. The Sentinelese are not welcoming to outsiders, and treat them with great hostility when they come near their land. As of right now, access to the North Sentinel Island is prohibited. This has left the Sentinelese people isolated, allowing them to maintain their culture in our globalizing world.
INDIAN GOVERNMENT PROTECTS ANDAMAN WAY OF LIFE:The Indian government altered its policies towards the Sentinelese and allow them to live as they please and recognizing/respecting their lifestyle/policies. Recently, however, various sea cucumber fishermen have encroached upon Sentinelese territory. India continues to go out of its way to protect these hunter gatherers, but lucrative industry may alter this sentiment. The sign above tells tourists not to take pictures or give food to the Jarawas, an indigenous tribe similar to the Sentinelese.
